A.J. Jacobs, the husband of Jennifer Lawrence, has been charged with murder in the death of his wife.
According to a police report obtained by PEOPLE, Jacobs was charged Friday with murder after police say he shot and killed his wife, who was found on a patio on June 1.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said that Jacobs has been arrested.
“Mr. Jacobs is accused of killing his wife and attempting to kill himself,” a statement from the DA’s office read.
“His arrest came after a two-day manhunt, during which police found Jacobs hiding in a garage on the property where his wife was found dead.
The arrest comes after several weeks of intense media scrutiny of the investigation and subsequent police investigation, and Mr. Jacobs’ public statements about the circumstances of the wife’s death.”
Jacobs has pleaded not guilty to murder.
A source close to the investigation tells PEOPLE that the investigation is ongoing.
“This is a sad day for the family and friends of Jennifer,” the source said.
“Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs are both wonderful people who have always been incredibly supportive of each other and their families.
They are a very good husband and father.
There is no way to overstate how deeply saddened we are by this terrible tragedy.”
Jacins, 35, was arrested by a police helicopter in Los Angeles on June 3.
According to the LA Times, a helicopter spotted Jacobs’ SUV parked on the lawn of a home in the city’s Westwood district, and officers surrounded the vehicle.
An officer fired multiple shots into the vehicle, killing his former wife, 30-year-old Alyssa Jacobs.
According for the Times, authorities say the couple had been separated for more than a year.
Alyssas was allegedly involved in an argument with Jacobs over her job, and she went to his house for help.
According the LATimes, Jacobs is alleged to have used the home as a meeting place, where he was allegedly abusive toward Alyssys mother, who is reportedly now in her 40s.
Alyssa was allegedly a single mother of two young children.
Her ex-husband reportedly had been in custody for the past two years on domestic violence charges.
According this report, the Los Angeles Police Department has been looking for Jacobs for several years, and has said that the search for him is continuing.
