Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up about the origins of his nickname and why it’s important to use it.
“It was like a big thing for me when I first started doing music.
And I’m like, ‘Man, I want to be known as a rapper and I want everybody to know me as a rapping dude.’
I didn’t know what that was,” Johnson said at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.
“And I just started making music.
So I thought, ‘That’s cool.
I can’t really explain it.
I just know that it’s dope.’
I just think of it as a good show.
I’m not a rap guy.
I think of myself as a musician.
And that’s dope.”
The former wrestler has spoken out about the influence of rapper Drake on him, who has become a fan since his breakout hit “Drake’s Hotline Bling.”
“When Drake first started, I was just trying to get out of my room and go to work and I was like, I just don’t think I’m good enough for Drake, so I’m going to try to just do whatever Drake says to me,” Johnson, 25, said.
“I’m just so thankful for him and I just want to show him what I’m capable of doing and just do my thing.”
He also discussed his thoughts on Kanye West and his future career, joking about Kanye’s relationship with his wife Kim Kardashian.
“Kim is going to come back in a couple of months,” he said.
